The Elephant Walk at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge was by far one of my greatest experiences. I have always admired the beauty of elephants. How gentle they interact with each other and comprehend one another feelings and emotions. Witnessing these giants in real life has been a special event for me!

According to one of the handlers working at Buffelsdrift, none of the elephants have been taken from the wild for captivity. The three elephants were orphaned whilst the adults were poached. They were standing around their dead parents, lost and not knowing where to go, incapable to take care of themselves. If it were not for Buffelsdrift intervention these wonderful giants would not be alive today. They took them in by means to give them the best possible life with the best possible love and care.
Jabari, Maleika and Bulelo are free roaming elephants, apart from two walks a day in which a small group of people joins in on them for a walk at the preservation. The rest of the day they are free to themselves.
Standing next to an elephant is breathtaking. Touching their skin which is rough and thick and watching how they slowly move, left me in awe. While looking into their eyes with the beautiful eyelashes there is this sudden connection. Lost in my mind and the wonderful experience I forgot everything around me and tried to concentrate on my walking partner next to me.
